Scope Out Shaoxing
Tour historic sites, explore East Lake, and try the wine
Situated in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, Shaoxing is known for its gorgeous water town scenery, rich culture as hometown to many famous literary figures and scholars, and delicious rice wine used for cooking and drinking. Enjoy an aquatic taxi ride through the colorful cliffs of East Lake and walk across the lake on intricate stone bridges while admiring the hills, grottoes, and pavilions. Pay tribute to the 4th century calligrapher Wang Xizhi by visiting the classic gardens at Orchid Pavilion or the 19th century Chinese writer and thinker Lu Xun by strolling through his well-preserved neighborhood. Charming Cangqiao Street is lined with souvenir shops and food stalls where you can try Shaoxing’s celebrated wine. You can also stop by the renowned Shen Garden based on a famous poem, check out King Yu's Mausoleum Temple at Kuaji Mountain (regarded as where the first Chinese dynasty was founded by Yu), and wander the picturesque streets while learning about traditional workmanship and cuisine at Anchang Ancient Town.
